American Dance Festival
The American Dance Festival is a six-week summer festival of modern dance performances, and a school for dance currently held at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Modern dance choreographers and companies including Jos Limon, Pearl Lang, Sophie Maslow, Alwin Nikolais, Merce Cunningham, Ruth Currier, Erick Hawkins, Paul Taylor, Alvin Ailey, Twyla Tharp, Eiko & Koma, and Pilobolus have all given performances there. Countless dance works have been premiered at the American Dance Festival, many of those commissioned by ADF.
More than 60 parks are available for public use with more planned for future development. The City of Durham also offers four large state-of-the-art recreational facilities for Durham citizens. Adults, seniors, youth, and teens can all find positive, enriching, and fun activities in the well-maintained recreation centers. There are also smaller neighborhood centers that provide the same positive atmosphere.
Sports in the area include tennis, softball, basketball, dodgeball, soccer, volleyball, flag football and more!
